MEET THE SUMMERS IN THE WORKS.
Hello. Thank you so very much for visiting SummersWorks.
My name is Mike Summers, owner and founder of SummersWorks. I was born and raised in Chicago but now call the Pacific Northwest home. Here's a quick bit of bio: I graduated from a Chicago public school at the age of 16, from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1986 and after a year working in social work, from Northwestern University School of Law in 1990. (So yes, I am a Big Ten man firmly ensconced in Pac 12 country. The horror is unimaginable).
I spent the better part of the next two and a half decades working as a corporate lawyer serving primarily small to mid-sized privately held companies. In this capacity, I had the honor of working side by side with some truly brilliant and innovative entrepreneurs.
During this time, I also had the opportunity to work in a number of professional capacities beyond the practice of law. One such example--I had the unique opportunity to work as an "education evangelist" for one of my long-time clients, a Chicago-based IT firm. My job, broadly defined, was to help develop an education department that would then assist K-12 schools better integrate technology into their curriculum and classrooms. We fought for the now commonly accepted idea that every child should have ubiquitous access to technology. While working in this capacity, I wrote a white paper on education technology and also authored a blog which (to my surprise) developed a rather large international following of reform-minded educators. Blogging led to the creation of websites (initially for myself and then for other clients), videos, podcasts, and other multimedia forms marketing collateral and communication.
How does this experience fuel and inform what I do now?
More than anything, I view myself as a skilled communicator and content creator. I understand the importance and power of narrative. The words you use matter. The story you tell matters. How you tell it matters. Our goal is to tell your story as beautifully as we can.
I look forward to working with you.
